Persuasive Essay
Deport or incarcerate immigrants is not the answer
In the last two years Trump`s Administration has ruined thousands of children's and young`s lives who have been separated from their parents, putting them at risk to diminish their full potential. Part of it is keep some members of their families under incarceration for stay longer and work in USA without authorization, for crossing the border illegally, or any other misdemeanor related with their legal status. Also, lately the government has requested by his federal contracting website new immigration detention facilities to hold criminal aliens and other immigration violators. Finally, he also announced the termination of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and possible deportation of its 800,000 beneficiaries.
Our fair claim to the goverment is to ensure to every immigrant or refugee a safe place to live without fear to be separated from their families, giving them the opportunity to be successful in life, helping them to become better citizens, and skilled employees who can be a valuable assets for their companies. But, what we have been noticing during decades is that immigrants have been used by politicians, lobbysts and businessmen operators as a primary sources to make money and hold the power. Every presidential election, politicians start their campaigns making promises to fix the immigration system, but this is just demagogy. By the other hand, it is also well documented that for-profit prisons companies very well representd by lobbysts have cut required minimal services to maximize profits putting immigrants’ lives at risk.
The government should putt aside differences and take advantage of the opportunities for mutual aid to have a well-regulated and advantageous labor market, especially when the Latin American-US commercial exchange is worth one million dollars per minute. There are many examples: Hispanic nurses taking care of elderly Americans; Hispanic workers who build and maintain clean homes where American children are raised. A well-regulated labor market can shape a flow of migrant labor that complements, rather than compete with US workers.
The well known Pew Research Center reports that 11.1 million, only 3.5% of the nation are unauthorized immigrants work as laborers in the construction and farming industry. The majority of undocumented immigrants are unskilled and thus never pose any economic threat for skilled jobs that are secured by legal residents or American citizens. In fact, economists have stated that undocumented workers actually complement the American economy.
As a reminder, immigrants seeking to live in this country are victims of war, terrorism, and poverty. They are trying to escape from the violence and oppression in their homelands. As immigrants, they are human beings who came to this country with a commitment to contribute to its greatness, not to destroy it. Most of them are unskilled employees who have come to United States with a degree under our arms to start over again because of language barriers or other limitations, but their passion give them a chance to get a job that is not wanted by someone else.
A proactive way to govern for our people is first at all create a system of fees to ensure that American employers agree to hire American workers first. Issue a form of visa portability among employers that would allow protecting the rights of Hispanic and American workers, limi of safeguards to avoid an unexpected increase in the number of workers crossing the border and new incentives for job training, migrant return and integration, provide a comprehensive and bilateral system to regulate recruiters of Mexican labor, in order to respect labor rights and the laws of both countries.
Deporting or incarcerating unauthorized immigrants workers is not a magic pill to solve immigration system, certainly is necessary work hard to find solutions to address properly this endless social problem, putting emphasis to keep families together, protecting children's and young's people mental health, giving them opportunities to develop a successful life without any kind of threat, putting aside eagerness for political and business power. The American Dream would not be possible without the inclusiveness of all the ethnic and migrant groups. Franklin D. Roosevelt said many years ago: “Remember, remember always, that all of us, and you and I especially, are descended from immigrants and revolutionists.” America should keep its promise as the land of opportunity, giving to newcomers a chance to reunite families and create economic security.

FINAL REFLECTION
I want to say that English 2640 Class gave me the opportunity to improve my writing skills in so many ways that maybe at the beginning of this class I did not realize how valuable was every homework, but at the end, I feel proud for all the work I have previously done. One of the important homework was called Online Connections/Journal Discussions, those were submitted every week. Those were related with another weekly assignment called Found Social Justice writing. Both assignments were a great motivation to continue my journey at college allowing me to be aware about all social and political problems every country around the world face.
I made connections between my civic engagement work and writing, putting my ideas on paper to make them true. I feel the students in this class were deeply encouraged by the instructor who gave us worthy ideas to improve our thoughts, analysis, and reflections to put them in paper. Every single homework have had a relevance into my writing. Finally, the last homework was related with my service learning experience, I feel that this gave me the opportunity to make a reflection and show all the work done in my community which is my commitment with immigration issues.
I believe that to be successful in life, education must be paired with civic engagement to have upper impact. I feel that my leadership and writing skills now are better paired, those have evolved thanks to my instructor. I believe that this is a process and I have a long way to go, however, it is a journey in the making.
